WELCA (Women of the Evangelical
Lutheran
Church of America)
WELCA is the "official" organization for women at First Lutheran.
We invite you to join us as we come together to learn, to serve
our congregation, and to serve our local and global communities.
Coming Together to Learn:
- The Lydia-Miriam Circle meets on the second Monday of each month
(7:00 p.m.) for Bible study and fellowship.
- The Ruth-Esther Circle meets the second Wednesday of each month
(2:00 p.m.) in the Fellowship Hall for Bible study and fellowship.
- WELCA meets once a month (except February, July, and August).
Coming Together to Serve our Congregation:
- Members of the Altar Committee prepare the altar for worship,
communion, and baptisms.
- WELCA members knit prayer shawls for those facing a serious
illness.
- WELCA donates a marriage cross to couples getting married at
First Lutheran.
- Members serve receptions and funeral luncheons.
- Lydia-Miriam members host fellowship hour once a month.
- Prayer Chain. Anyone requesting the prayer may contact Pastor Greg or Connie Johnson (the Parish Nurse); please give the direct wording of the request, along with the length of time you wish the prayer to continue. Be sure the person(s) gives permission foro the request to be placed.
Coming Together to Serve our Local and Global Communities:
- We host activities at the Prophet Riverview Center.
- We deliver Christmas cookies and fruit plates to our shut-ins
in December.
- WELCA hosts one service during the Week of Prayer for Christian
Unity.
- Proceeds from our December bake sale support Lutheran Social
Services.
- The Country Quilters meet Monday mornings to make quilts for
Lutheran World Relief.
