Church Council and Committees

First Lutheran Church Council and Council Committees meet on the second Tuesday of each month: the committees meet at 7:00 p.m., council convenes at 8:00 p.m. The Church Council hears committee reports, conducts the business of the church, and supports the staff in their ministries.

Council Committees are made up of six members: three selected by the congregation for a three year term as a council member and three at large members who serve one year terms. If you would like to be involved in any of these committees, please indicate your preference on your Time and Talent form or contact the church office.

  • The Education Committee advices Confirmation, Sunday School, and Christian education.
  • The Evangelism and Social Ministry Committee welcomes new members, maintains the nursery, watches over congregational outreach, and serves as First Lutheran's connection to the Food Pantry.
  • The Property Committee maintains and repairs the church and parsonage.
  • The Stewardship Committee designs the congregation's commitment Sunday and works with the church treasurer on financial reporting.
  • The Worship and Music Committee works with the pastor to pick hymns, line up musicians and readers, and determine liturgies.

Congregational Committees meet quarterly - or as needed - to support the various activities of First Lutheran Church. If you would like to be involved in any of these committees, please indicate your preference on your Time and Talent form or contact the church office.

  • The Auditing Committee oversees the treasurer's year-end accounting and the Financial Secretary's reports.
  • The Endowment Fund was established to receive bequests. The Endowment Fund Committee oversees the Fund, using the interest to support ministries of First Lutheran and the ELCA, and educates the congregation in charitable giving.
  • The Health and Wellness Committee supports Connie Johnson, our congregational nurse, helps with the yearly blood drive in November, and promotes health material for the church.
  • The Memorial and Scholarship Committee oversees the monies given in memory or honor of church members or their families. These funds usually fund significant projects not in the current budget. The Scholarship Fund is an investment fund whose interest is used to support first year college students.
  • The Mutual Ministry Committee focuses on the wellness of the church staff. The committee meets with staff four times a year to encourage continuing education, to hear the staff's concerns and provide feedback, and to make salary recommendations to the Church Council. If necessary, this committee may also meet to mediate disputes.
  • The Nominating Committee oversees the yearly nominating of members to the Church Council and committees.
  • The Youth Advisory Committee, made up of parents and youth, supports the Director of Youth and Family Ministries and the youth program at First Lutheran.
