FLY (First Lutheran Youth)

Students in the 9th through 12 grades participate in a variety of activities.

Monthly Meetings: The focus of our meetings is supporting each other in our spiritual journey. We choose issues of faith to discuss. This year we completed a Thirty Hour Famine, which brought to light the issues of hunger and poverty in our community and world.

Fellowship Activities: This year we have sponsored lock-ins, bowling parties, pizza dinners, and attended sporting events. These activities give us time just to kick back, have fun, and share time together.

Yearly Trips: In the past we have attended the tri-annual national youth conventions. The last one was in Atlanta, and the next one will be in San Antonio in 2006. The summer of 2004 we traveled to Boston for a servant trip sponsored by YouthWorks, a non-denominational group dedicated to involving youth in helping ministries and Bible study, and during 2005 we went to St. Louis. During June 2006 we were able to "Dive into the Water" on a rafting trip to Colorado.

Fund Raising: Raising money to support the church and to fund our trips is part of our fellowship. This year we are sponsoring a monthly brunch after church. In addition to providing funding for the summer trip, we have helped First Lutheran refurbish the nursery.

Worship: In addition to the yearly youth service, our skits help pastor with some of his sermons. We use our music talents to support singing, we usher during the month of October, and we are readers.
